All that rough-hewn artisany talk of workbenches and tools has finally paid off with the announcement yesterday that The Company of Information Technologists can now call itself the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, having been granted livery by the City of London, making it the 100th Livery Company seven years after it was formed and 600 years after the Mercers – cloth merchants – became the first; the Company has 316 Freemen, but the Court of Aldermen has limited the initial number of those to receive livery to 300.
