San Jose, California-based Cisco Systems Inc has announced that CiscoWorks, its Unix-based set of applications for managing internetworks, will be available on personal computers later this year. CiscoWorks for Windows, a set of Windows applications that runs on the HP OpenView system, is a subset of the original Unix-based CiscoWorks, and will initially include four applications. CiscoView stores and maintains graphical renderings of all Cisco router, switch and access server products, says the company. The renderings show physical device configuration, with boards in the appropriate slots, according to Cisco. Clicking on selected hotspots on the renderings calls up inventory information and device statistics. Configuration Builder enables users to create configuration files for multiple routers or switches. Users can configure multiple routers or switches simultaneously, import predefined ‘snap-ins’, such as access lists, into configuration files, and check configurations for duplicate addre sses or invalid parameters, says the company. Health monitor, as its name suggests, provides information about the overall health of networked devices, and Show Commands enables users to access information through a direct device connection without having to execute a Telnet session or understand a specific syntax. The personal computer application suite lists at $3,120, compared to $12,500 for the Unix version, and will ship in the second quarter of this year.
