According to Cisco, IPS 4270 offers up to 4Gbps for web-based content and video and 2Gbps for e-commerce, point-of-sale, instant messaging, and internet telephony and supports up to 20,000 transactions per second. It will help IT administrators to detect security breaches and employ relevant policies to curb internal and external threats. The architecture for the IPS 4270 is designed to be flexible and virtualization friendly enabling IT organizations to weave intrusion prevention services into the data center system.

Mick Scully, vice president of product management for Cisco’s Security Technology Group said: Cisco has made a conscientious effort to design a flexible, powerful and virtualization-friendly IPS device that meets the critical needs of high-traffic environments.

The company also reported that IPS 4270 includes hot-swappable power options and a scalable interface capable of accommodating high-density copper and fiber gigabit Ethernet ports.

It integrates with Cisco’s IPS Device Manager for standalone management. For multi-unit deployments, the Cisco IPS 4270 Sensor integrates with Cisco Security Manager and Cisco Security Monitoring Analysis and Response System (MARS) to help ensure collaborative central management across a network security infrastructure.

In February 2007, Cisco introduced its security data communication products for defending networks as a part of the intrusion prevention systems. This included Cisco IPS 6.0 in addition to Cisco Security Agent 5.2, Cisco Security MARS 4.3 and Cisco Security Manager 3.1.
