The two companies have collaborated to develop and validate reliable datagram sockets (RDS) protocol to test Oracle’s Real Application Clusters (RAC) 11g. They have also tested and validated designs for unifying Cisco application delivery and storage networking technologies with the Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications 11i products.
According to Cisco, the RDS protocol improves the scalability of RAC 11g formation using servers, increases performance and provides growth as well as helps reduce capital and operating costs. The protocol is packaged with the industry standard OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) Linux drivers for InfiniBand.
Pramod Srivatsa, a product line manager for Cisco server fabric switches said that the RDS was designed for clusters of servers in one datacenter, which could include blade as well as rack servers. He added that Cisco will start providing RDS for commercial use in its InfiniBand servers after it is certified by Oracle.
Moreover, Oracle and Cisco WebEx recently announced that they will offer Oracle’s Siebel CRM On Demand Service through the WebEx Connect application ecosystem.
Earlier this month, Cisco also launched its Server Fabric Switch (SFS) InfiniBand Series, which offers scalability, availability and security, has been deployed to support high-speed data online transactions at outdoor merchandise retailer Cabelas.
