Cisco Systems Inc has announced a development partnership with Sydney, Australia-based Metaplex Pty Ltd, which specialises in IBM Corp SNA data communications software. It will develop software to enhance Cisco’s router and switch systems, to provide connections for IBM internetworking. Specific details were not forthcoming, but according to Cisco, the key areas of product focus will be local area network switching, access protocol technology and mainframe connection. The development efforts will be conducted under the auspices of Cisco’s recently-formed IBM Internetworking Business Unit (CI No 2,662).
