Network memory is increasingly used on networking gear in high-speed networks to accelerate application performance by reducing the need for disk access, particularly for apps that require processing of large volumes of data such as intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).

The San Jose, California-based networking giant said the Nemo technology will offer enhanced performance on Cisco’s core switching platforms and service modules. Once incorporated into its equipment, it went on, the technology will allow customers to scale network systems and the line card bandwidth while reducing the overall cost of high-performance networking systems.

Nemo will become part of Cisco’s Data Center, Switching and Security Technology Group (DSSTG).
