San Jose, California-based Cisco Systems Inc has added two models aimed at small office environments to its 760 Ethernet-to-ISDN router family, the Cisco 761 and Cisco 762. The company has also announced a 25% to 40% price reduction across the entire Cisco 760 product line. The Cisco 761 and Cisco 762 provide high-speed routing via an ISDN Basic Rate Interface line. The ClickStart Web-based configuration tool is included. The Cisco 761 has an ISDN Basic Rate Interface S/T interface for installation in countries where connecting to an external Network Termination 1 is required. The Cisco 762 has a built-in NT-1 interface for North American users. The Cisco 761 and 762 are available immediately at US list prices starting at $600. The company has also added a new member to its Catalyst family of local network switches, in the shape of the 3200. The seven-slot chassis-based model is stackable – up to eight units – and accepts the full range of 3000 series modules, including those for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, 100VG-AnyLAN and Asynchronous Transfer Mode. Additionally, a ‘flex-slot’ is designed for a forthcoming wide area module supporting high-speed serial and ISDN communications. In the future – no time-scale was given – it will be enhanced to support Layer 3 switching. The 3200 is scheduled to ship next month at $5,000. The wide area network module is due to follow in November; no word yet on pricing for this.
