Cisco Systems Inc, Menlo Park says that it and Digital Link Corp have been chosen by Sprint Corp to help build an Asynchronous Transfer Mode network for for the US National Aeronautics & Space Administration and Department of Energy. Cisco’s AGS+ will be linked to the Asynchronous Transfer Mode net via Digital Link’s ATM Digital Service Interface. The contract was awarded under the US National Research and Education Network programme, and the first phase will link the Lawrence Livermore and NASA Ames laboratories to Sprint’s Asynchronous Transfer Mode test bed in Burlingame, California. Later, another 11 user sites will be added and the five-year programme will eventually link 33 research institutions.
