Cisco delivers on Borderless Network vision

New range of switches and routers announced

By Vinod

Cisco has put flesh on the bones of its Borderless Network vision with the addition of new router and switches.

The aim of the Borderless Networks architecture, announced in October 2009, is to seamlessly and securely connect anyone to anything, anywhere and any time. This is made possible by technology services such as video, green, security, mobility and application performance which are embedded into new routers, switches and security appliances.

“One of the main trends we have observed in the past few years is the dissolving of borders. Your company needs to be accessible by more entities and now that those borders are dissolving and people use technology like Smartphones and iPhones, companies need to be able to connect people remotely. The Borderless Network is Cisco’s holistic next-gen vision and a series of solutions and service that act a as a foundation to enable the borderless experience,” said Maurizio Taffone, Borderless Network technical product marketing lead at Cisco. Enabling video is also key to Cisco’s vision.

To meet these requirements Cisco announced a new series of fixed switches, the Cisco Catalyst 3560/3750 X Series and the Catalyst 2960-S switch. It also announced two new routers.

Alongside the new products, Cisco also launched network services, Medianet which optimises endpoints for video, EnergyWise which helps companies lower their costs through more efficient energy consumption and TrustSec. This enables companies to simplify the deployment security polices across all the technologies.

“TrustSec is really a way to move LAN and WAN networking from the static to dynamic. This is a very flexible solution because it allows you to reduce complexity,” said Taffone.
