The companies plan to add new features to their joint Business Class Wireless Suite, which is designed for companies using Cisco’s Unified Wireless Architecture and Intel Centrino-based mobile technology.
The goal is to create an out-of-the-box experience that is secure and easy-to-use in both environments, said Cisco chief development officer Charles Giancarlo, at Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco yesterday.
The suite includes optimal access point technology to enable devices to scan for the access point that has optimal bandwidth rather than just a random access point that is available, Giancarlo said.
The suite also promises enhanced VoIP quality of service technology for WiFi-enabled laptops. It would be a handle between the Cisco router and client — a handshake to guarantee adequate bandwidth available for voice, Giancarlo said.
VoIP on WiFi turns out to be really, really tricky, Giancarlo said, but He after several difficult years of developing the technology, Cisco now has done what we need to do to have an optimal VoIP experience for new WiFi IP phones and networks.
The new suite features would be available from Cisco and Intel during the first quarter of 2006.
