CISCO AND DELL BENEFIT FROM ONLINE MARKETPLACE

By CBR Staff Writer

Cisco Systems Inc, with its domination of the Internet routers market, is also making progress on the other side of the Superhighway, by using it to sell its wares. Sales from its web site have reached nearly $5m a day, or $1bn a year and the firm expects its online revenue to hit $2bn by July. It also claims quicker production cycles and massive savings – some $535m a year – from using the Internet. Another firm to benefit from the online marketplace has been Dell Computer Corp. It is one of the pioneers of direct sales for personal computers, and began using the web last July which now generates sales of up to $1m a day.
