Securent claims to be the leader in entitlement management solutions (EMSs), an extensible access control markup language (XACML) standard-based technology. According to Cisco, Securent’s software will offer application data protection, independent of vendor, platform and operating system. It will also simplify entitlement decisions for all communications and third-party applications. According to Securent, the EMS software offers access management for hardware and software in both Windows and non-Windows systems for Ethernet and WiMax. This includes content management sites and portals in addition to collaboration and messaging applications.

California-based Securent has 57 employees and development operations in Hyderabad, India. After the close of the transaction, the Securent team will move into Cisco’s Collaboration Software Group.

Securent’s software offers enterprises a single point of control to define and manage entitlements across applications and data, said Don Proctor, senior vice president of the Collaboration Software Group at Cisco.

This is the 11th acquisition by Cisco in 2007. Its other acquisitions include IronPort Systems in January, Five Across and Reactivity in February, SpansLogi, NeoPath Networks and WebEx Communications in March, BroadWare Technologies in May, Latigent and Cognio in September, and Navini Networks in October.
