Networking firm Cisco has introduced new Industrial Ethernet (IE) 2000 switch series to help customers to build intelligent networks for industrial automation, delivering secure, scalable connectivity from plant floor to enterprise network.

Cisco IE 2000 switch series is built on the company’s existing Industrial Ethernet family of switches, delivering reliable and secure network connectivity to unique manufacturing environments.

It also provides secure remote access and monitoring of automated systems.

The new switch portfolio will enable Cisco to provide intelligent networks that simplify the deployment of security, video and voice services for machine-to-machine communications on the manufacturing floor and industrial IP networks.

The Cisco IE 2000 switch series provides consistent network services between industrial networks and enterprise business applications, while also providing integrated security and manageability to create an intelligent network.

The new release delivers video and corporate applications to manufacturing plant floor and offers intelligent energy management with visibility into machine performance to help customers manage costs.

Cisco Industrial Ethernet 2000 Series Switches are fixed platforms that deliver Layer 2 switching on Cisco IOS software.

The switches allows customers to permit or deny network connectivity based on the identity of device with support for IEEE 802.1X, help secure administrator traffic with encryption through SSH, protects against "man-in-the-middle" attacks (unauthorised message interception) with DHCP snooping,

Industrial Ethernet 2000 Series Switches also help prevent faulty end devices from compromising overall system performance with Storm Control as well as enable transparent integration with support for industry-specific protocols including IEEE 1588, CIP, and PROFINET.
