Cisco has launched a new nPower integrated network processor series, which is targeted to cater the Internet of Everything (IoE) and deliver better performance and bandwidth, in addition to programmable control via open APIs and improved compute abilities.
The nPower X1 integrated network processor, which is the first generation of the nPower processor family, claimed to be scaled up to multi-terabit performance levels while dealing with trillions of transactions.
Incorporating over 50 patents, the new processor is mainly developed for software-defined networking (SDN) and to enable faster reprogramming for new levels of service agility and simplified network operation.
The new chip offers 400Gbps of throughput to offer multi-terabit network performance, while integrating packet processing, traffic management and input/output functions.
Cisco claimed that the new processor will be capable of handling hundreds of millions of unique transactions per second and its four billion transistors would boost performance, functionality and programmability.
The new processor enables offerings with eight times the throughput and one quarter the power per bit than networking firm’s earlier network processor, the company added.
