Cisco acquires network technology provider Arch Rock

To offer secure advanced metering infrastructure solution

Cisco has acquired Internet protocol-based wireless network technology provider Arch Rock for the smart-grid applications.

Cisco said that San Francisco based Arch Rock will accelerate its ability to facilitate utility industry’s transition to an open and interoperable smart grid by enabling it to provide secure advanced metering infrastructure offering.

With the acquisition, Cisco will now be able to access Arch Rock’s expertise that has been a provider in the research and development of wireless networking for smart-grid applications.

The company said that the Arch Rock team now has becomes a part of its efficient smart grid business unit.
