Portable manufacturers looking to include communications capabilities in their machines are being targeted by Cirrus Logic Inc, which has just bought out the incredibly titled CL-MD9624EC2 Intelligent Data/Fax/Voice Modem chip set: the company claims that it is the first set to incorporate MNP5/V42bis, facsimile and voice transmission functions in two chips; the set supports data at 2400bps and facsimile at up to 9600bps, and provides telephone answering machine capability and remote access support; samples will be available next month at $23 each for 10,000-up.
