Cirrus Logic Inc has announced Mondello, a Video RAM-based graphics accelerator. It includes what it claims to be a very-high-performance two dimensional graphical user interface and three dimensional rendering accelerator, CL-GD5470, a 135MHz true-colour palette Digital-Analogue Converter, CL-GD5472, and a VGA-compatible controller with VL-PCI bus interface, CL-GD5471. The CL-GD5470 is a three dimensional rendering and a two-dimensional graphical user interface accelerator. The CL-GD5471 provides a glueless Peripheral Component Interconnect and VL-Bus interface along with VGA compatibility. The CL-GD5472 is a 135MHz dedicated 24-bit palette Digital Analogue Converter that features a 96-bit-wide direct VRAM interface and a 32-bit-wide video overlay port. The product enables the introduction of applications compatible with Silicon Graphics’ OpenGL, Intel’s 3DR, emerging game Application Programming Interfaces such as Argonaut Software Ltd’s BRender, RenderMorphics’s Reality Labs, Ithica’s Hoops and VESA’s VAGI Interface standard. It is available now at a sampling price of $150 and production quantities will be out in the fourth quarter.
