Fremont, California based Cirrus Logic Inc has a new TrueColor VGA family of four pincompatible single-chip graphics controllers that combine 16- and 24-bit colour VGA and SuperVGA compatibility, and graphical user interface acceleration: the family features on-chip RAMDACs and frequency synthesisers, so a complete subsystem with full interface accleration and 24-bit 16.8m colour capability to be implemented using a single TrueColor chip and as few as two standard memory chips; the parts are the CL-GD5420 SuperVGA Controller, an entry-level SuperVGA chip, and the CL-GD5422 TrueColor VGA Controller, an entry-level true-colour part that adds 16- and 24-bit colour capability; and the CL-GD5424 Local Bus TrueColor VGA Accelerator and CL-GD5426 TrueColor VGA user interface accelerator add local-bus implementation and full graphics acceleration with local-bus implementation capabilities, respectively; the CL-GD5420 SuperVGA Controller and the CL-GD5422 TrueColor VGA Controller are sampling now, with volume early next quarter at $17 each and $21.50 each for 1,000up; the CL-GD5424 Local Bus TrueColor VGA Accelerator and the CL-GD5426 TrueColor VGA Accelerator will sample next quarter at $23 and $30 each, in quantities of 1,000up.
