Cipher Data Products Inc, now a subsidiary of Archive Corp, has a new line of personal computer-based SCSI tape subsystems: they are designed for both AT and Micro Channel systems, and will use SCSI host adaptors; the software provided is NovaTape from NovaStor Corp and it provides file transfer, data conversion and restore capabilities; the subsystems will support 3-Net,NetWare, Macintosh, MS-DOS, OS/2, Unix, Windows and Xenix operating systems, although initial releases, scheduled for this month, will only support MS-DOS and NetWare; they will enable users to access mainframe data through standard 3480 cartridge and half inch reel-to-reel media, and one of the data interchange features of the software will enable users to extract records through wild cards; the information is automatically transferred to an MS-DOS file that can be used with the most database and spreadsheet packages, and the software is NetWare 286/386 compatible with a a mouse-driven interface; the F880ES is $5,500, the M995S is $11,000 and TapeXpress is $15,000.
