Cingular Wireless, the leading mobile service in the US, now includes a ticker that scrolls headlines or other information across the bottom of a phone’s screen, as well as quicker access to preferred online content.
Ralph de la Vega, Cingular Wireless COO, said the new service aims to solve customer frustrations with current wireless Internet being too slow and difficult to user.
The company’s beefed-up MEdia Net service promises to enable users to retrieve online information by clicking an item of interest on the scrolling ticker. Users also can set up a personalized home page on their cell phone, as well as chose the content to be delivered directly to the cell phone, such as breaking news.
Cingular also will link localized content to the customer’s billing zip code.
Cingular’s new service will be available to its more than 30 million customers during the next several weeks.
MEdia Net services costs one cent per KB on a pay-as-you-go basis or included in a package that ranges from $4.99 for 1MB to $19.99 for unlimited data usage.
The new service is also expected to help Atlanta, Georgia-based Cingular Wireless better compete against US rivals Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp.
