It is a measure of the prospects for a proprietary computer line when independent software companies believe it worth implementing major products for it, so it is a vote of confidence in the medium term future of the VME operating system that Cincom UK has bought a Series 39 machine from ICL to develop an SQL version of the Mantis application development system: Cincom says that SQL Mantis will access ICL’s data management facilities, indexed sequential, CAFS, IDMS-X, and DDS; it will be ready for beta testing this summer; Cincom has has joined the ICL Traderpoint scheme and will jointly market ICL-based solutions in conjunction with the Mantis application development system; it is five years ago since Cincom started soliciting ICL’s support for a version of Mantis for VME (CI No 145).
