By CBR Staff Writer

Ciena, a provider of communication network platforms, software and professional services, has reported total revenues of $417.6m for the fourth quarter of 2010, an increase of 137% compared to $176.3m for the same quarter in 2009.

The company’s operating loss was $81.2m for the quarter compared to loss of $26.6m for the same period last year.

The loss before income taxes for the fourth quarter was $79.3m compared to $28.1m for the same quarter prior year.

For the quarter ended 31 October 2010, the company posted net loss of $80.3m, or $0.86 per share, compared to $26.7m, or $0.29 per share, for the same period last year.

Ciena president and CEO Gary Smith said that with strong fiscal fourth quarter and year-end results and their integration activities solidly on track, it is evident that their strategic direction and execution continue to be validated by the market.

The company expects fiscal first quarter 2011 revenue to be in the range of $410m and $430m and adjusted gross margin to be in the low 40s range.
