The new system will upgrade the state’s WIC automation capabilities, providing custom application development, including requirements and design analysis, construction, testing, and implementation support.

The system will meet open source standards set by the Commonwealth Standards Board so it is not dependent on any one vendor’s proprietary software or operating system. The resulting WIC system will be built using Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technology.

Ciber has developed web-based systems for US states including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Iowa.

WIC is a national program funded by the US Department of Agriculture. It is administered in 87 states, territories, and Indian Nations around the country to provide health and nutrition education, healthy food, and other services to lower income Americans with young children.
