The machine’s launch went almost unnoticed in the US and Europe, but Chiyoda Office Machines has released the top-of-range model of General Automation Corp’s fault-tolerant Parallel 600XR Unix machine, and looks to sell between 20 and 30 this year, mainly targeting the distribution and manufacturing industries; the 600XR is built around multiple 68020 microprocessors and runs Unix 4.2 BSD with System V extensions; a dual processor is $218,750 and ships start next month.
