Chisholm Technologies Inc says it has simplified the task of managing DFS Distributed File Systems with the launch of DFS Manager 1.0 with an easy to use Java-based graphical front end. The Austin, Texas-based company has also launched a set of Java- based class libraries for Java programmers handling DCE Distributed Computing Environments. Chisholm is the intranet administration tools spin-off from Fujitsu Ltd’s HAL Computer Systems Inc, which was funded by Fujitsu last year (CI No 2,938). The company says the new Java graphical interface with DFS Manager 1.0 takes away the tedium of performing time-consuming file administration and management tasks from the command line, by providing a simple point and click system for distributed file system management and maintenance. The product reduces the need to enter repetitive commands, and also enables administrators to perform basic tasks such as moving, deleting and replicating file sets, will enable them to organize and balance loads within the distributed system. Version 1.0 also has cache and configuration management capabilities to enable system performance to be optimized. Chisholm says its JDCE 1.0 Java class libraries will provide Java programmers with a new range of programming capabilities for Distributed Computing Environment, particularly for the Internet and intranet. The company says the libraries give developers a rich array of software tools for developing both distributed clients and servers, and eliminate the need for them to use any special development tools or to work in unfamiliar application development environments. The product has been accepted by the Open Group for inclusion as part of its JADE Java for Distributed Computing Environment, which aims to enable Distributed Computing Environment clients and servers to be written in Java and make existing DCE applications accessible from Java applications (CI No 2,976). IBM Corp’s Transarc subsidiary is already resellingChisholm’s DCE Cell Manager for DCE administration in the US.
