The first cloning kit for any of the IBM Personal System/2s – albeit only the uninspired Model 30 – is set for launch next week by Chips & Technologies Inc, Milpitas, California. According to Microbytes, the key part in the set will be the 82C100 system logic chip, which replaces about 45 parts in a Model 30 and controls the entire system. An XT version, the 82C101 will also be offered, both running at 10MHz. Chips says a 10MHz Model 30-alike can be built with an 82C100, 82C606 peripheral controller and 82C764A data separator, using fewer than 25 chips, compared with the 63 used in the 8MHz Model 30. The 82C100 sup-ports 8088, 8086, and NEC V20 and 30; samples August, volume October.
