Chips & Technologies Inc, San Jose has joined forces with the Ungermann-Bass Inc unit of Tandem Computers Inc to bring a dual protocol local networking chip set to market: the companies jointly designed, defined and implementated ChipsLAN, controversially claimed to be the first set to imp-lement both Token Ring and Ethernet ChipSet, and also developed the supporting software: the ChipsLAN product combines Ungermann-Bass’s Token Ring and Chips & Tech’s Ethernet cores in a two-chip set with an AT bus interface.
