Ambitious Chips & Technologies Inc, Milpitas, California, wants to diversify from its core business of producing VLSI chips that cut the cost of building Personalikes, and has hired whiz computer designer Steven Kahng to be vice-president and general manager of design services – helping Chips & Technologies customers to design their machines using the company’s components: Kahng, who designed the Leading Edge Model D Personalike for Daewoo to make, and has designed machines for DEC, Convergent Technologies, Samsung and Gold Star, has been running a design house, Up To Date Technology Inc for the past couple of years – it has sales of over $3m last year – but will wind the company up once existing work is done.
