Chips & Technologies Inc has announced a modular architecture VGA controller chip with features tailored to flat-panel displays: the 65520 VGA controller operates at both 3.3 volts and 5 volts, and with its companion chip, the 82C404 clock synthesiser, the 65520 is said to enable designers to build small, low cost systems; the 65520 VGA controller is available in sample quantities with production quantities shipping in April and it costs $40 in quantities of 1,000; the 82C404 single-chip clock synthesizer is available in sample quantities at $5 for 1,000 or more.
