Chips and Technologies Inc reckons that its PS/2 Model 30 cloning kit (CI No 726) will enable manufacturers to build desktops, intelligent terminals and full featured laptops that are more than 25% faster than the IBM Model 30: the family of chips integrates almost all the system logic, input-output peripherals and data separation functions into single-chip VLSI circuits, headlined by the 82C100 that supports 8088, 8086, V20 and V30 microprocessors at up to 10MHz; the 82C101 version supports 8088 and V20 8-bit bus microprocessors for budget-conscious designers; the three companion chips are the 82C606 CHIPSpak and 82C605A CHIPSport multifunction peripheral controllers, and the 82C764A Analogue Floppy Disk Data Separator; the 82C100 also includes a memory controller that supports the Lotus-Intel-Microsoft expanded memory specification, system configuration registers, and dual clocks – and power management features for laptop systems to help cut battery drain when the box is inactive.
