Following the official launch of its ONcore Switching System Asynchronous Transfer Mode-based product set, first announced last November, Southborough, Massachusetts-based Chipcom Corp has turned to the workgroup-desktop arena with a series of 25Mbps Asynchronous Mode offerings. First up is ONsemble ATM 25Mbps Workgroup Concentrator, an eight-port Asynchronous Transfer Mode Concentrator said to be aimed at high-performance workgroup or remote office installations. The Concentrator supports 25Mbps full-duplex Asynchronous Mode connections over shielded or unshielded twisted-pair cabling, and comes with one 100Mbps Asynchronous Mode switch port. An optional four-port, 25Mbps module is also available for the Concentrator, says the company, expanding the number of available ports to 12. Chipcom has also unveiled an Asynchronous Mode 25Mbps AT personal computer adaptor board, that provides 25Mbps connections to Asynchronous Mode networks over unshielded or shielded twisted pair cabling, and a set of intelligent Asynchronous Mode adaptors for 100Mbps connections for applications like high-speed file transfers and distributed multimedia. The ONsemble ATM 25Mbps Workgroup Concentrator lists for $4,400, with the ONsemble four-port 25Mbps Module costing an additional $2,200. The Asynchronous Mode 25Mbps adaptor board will list for $500, while the Asynchronous Mode 100Mbps adaptor boards start at $1,400 for the Sbus version, rising to $1,700 for the EISA option and $2,500 for the Micro Channel Architecture offering. All will ship within 75 days. Further out, Chipcom will offer its ONdemand ATM Campus Manager network manager application, initially on IBM Corp’s NetView/6000 system, and later for Hewlett-Packard Co’s HP OpenView. By mid-year, Chipcom also plans to introduce its stand-alone, ONsemble local network-to-Asynchronous Mode Bridge. This two-port Bridge will reportedly support both Ethernet and Token Ring, and be expandable to four ports; an optional 100Mbps Asynchronous Mode uplink will also be available. The range will later be expanded to include 155Mbps ATM adaptor boards, an ONcore System 155 Mbps UNI Module and a range of local network-to-Asynchronous Mode switching products, it says.
