CHIP BOOK TO BILL RATIO FOR SEPTEMBER SLIPS 0.02 POINTS TO 1.04

They’re dancing in the streets of San Jose following the news that the third quarter of 1987 was the first third quarter since 1983 to record chip orders ahead of deliveries during the period. The Semiconductor Industry Association reports that the book-to- bill ratio for September was 1.04, a modest decline from the revised figure of 1.06 for August. The three-month running average of orders to September was $967.5m, up 2.3% on the figure for the three months to August, and shipments in September, at $1,050m, were 19% up on the August figure, while the three month running average of shipments to September, at $930.2m, was 4.5% up on the comparable three-month running average to August.
