New low-cost software developed by the Beijing Software Engineering and Research Center will compete head on with Microsoft Corp’s Venus television and web integration software that was unveiled by Bill Gates in Shenzhen earlier this month. Like Venus, the new software allows Chinese television viewers to access the internet via their TV sets, the Xinhua news agency reported. It said major domestic computers and household electronics manufacturers have signed cooperation contracts with the center.
