China’s post and telecommunications sector volume rose to $7,300m in the first half, an increase of 37.9% compared with the same 1995 period, Xinhua news agency said. The number of telephone subscribers rose by 8.32m from January to June, it said. Of total digital telecommunications users, one third had joined the network this year, taking the number of electronic mail subscribers to 8,855 and the number of Internet subscribers to 12,000, it said. It said China had 61.55m telephone lines, 5.12 m mobile phone subscribers and 1 million public phones.
