Shanghai Guangdian Company Ltd, a Chinese TV maker, has demonstrated a Web TV with an operating system based on MicrosoftÆs Windows CE. The Web TV, due to shiop by November, will retail at 7,000 yuan ($846) and will include a 29 color TV, a set-top box, a keyboard and a remote control, and will be capable of web browsing, sending and receiving email and word processing. A multimedia computer with a Pentium III processor costs about the same price in China, while a set-top box which allows internet access through a standard TV costs less than $200. However, a Guangdian executive said the product was aimed at the top end of the consumer market and is made largely from expensive imported components.
