Internet guru Nicholas Negroponte has been accorded a hero’s welcome in China, where the Chinese translation of his book Being Digital is a best seller. The director of the Media Laboratory at MIT was mobbed both by photographers and fans looking for an autograph when he arrived to give a speech at a Beijing hotel recently. Zhang Chaoyang, CEO of top Chinese search engine company Sohoo said: He is a genius, a prophet. He has a special significance in China. His book is the key for Chinese to understand the digital world. We have a Negroponte complex. He belongs to the world, but belongs more to China.
