China is to reduce its charges for international communications by an average of 20% in the second half of this year, Hong Kong’s Peking-backed Wen Wei Po newspaper said. The Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications would cut rates further in 1997 and 1998 so that prices would reach the same levels as other developing countries, it quoted Vice-Minister of Posts & Telecommunications Yang Xianzu as saying. The minister acknowledged that prices in China were comparatively high.
