The charges will rise to $907,000 during the first year and will be increased steadily to $1.3 million after three years. Operator China Mobile has said that the new charges will make a considerable financial impact on the company. Its rival China Unicom will also be affected by the price escalation.
China raises GSM spectrum charges
As of July 1, 2002, GSM spectrum charges are to be raised in China. The increase in prices will take place over the next three years. The regulators are raising the costs to bring them in line with the standardized fee scale, currently charged at $121,000 per MHz of spectrum.
