China’s Ministry of Information Industry has announced it will crack down with a firm hand on independent telecom operators who have been using the internet to provide long-distance access. Unauthorized operators have been using the internet to provide both domestic and international services, some of whom advertise openly and others colluding with foreign companies, said Zhou Baoxin, an official in the MII’s telecom bureau.
