China Mobile to sell Dell Mini 3i smartphone

New smartphone supports carrier's OPhone and mobile market platforms

By CBR Staff Writer

China Mobile will become the first mobile operator to sell Dell Mini 3i, a new multi-touch smart phone designed to leverage the carrier’s new OPhone and Mobile Market platforms.

The new smartphone, available in red passion and oiled bronze colours, is expected to be available through China Mobile’s nation-wide channels by the end of November 2009, and Dell direct to follow.

According to Dell, the new Mini 3i, which runs on China Mobile’s OPhone open source platform, includes entertainment such as pre-loaded 139Mail e-mail, fetion chat and digital maps for navigation. It is compatible with consumer applications, e-mail platforms, and office productivity software and provides access to China Mobile’s mobile market suite of services, games, productivity tools, wallpapers, ringtones and applications.

The new Mini 3i features 3.5-inch nHD, 640×360 display and weighs around 105g. It comes with GPS navigation, 3 megapixel camera, micro SD (up to 32GB), bluetooth and mini USB connector and also allows users to personalise MP3 ring tones, icons and shortcuts and run widgets on the home screen, the company said.

Michael Yang, vice president and general manager for Greater China Consumer of Dell, said: “People today want to carry their lives with them – they want to discover, capture and share new content as they roam around the world. We believe Dell’s year-long development collaboration with China Mobile will amplify those experiences better than anyone else in the industry.”
