Planning what is described as a Japanese-style build-up of its electronics industry, China promises to create two or three industry majors by the year 2000: United Press International reports that Lin Yuanfang of theMinistry of Electronics Industry says the effort will inject capital into favoured companies to nurture China’s own IBM [he intends them to be that successful, does he] or Sony; the target sectors are computers, video recorders and mobile telephones.
