China’s Ministry of Posts & Tele?communications has prohibited tele?communications operators from edit?ing and distributing news, the semi-official China News Agency said in a report monitored in Hong Kong. It says that the ban, which takes immediate effect, targets paging service operators in parti?cular, especially those in China’s southern Guangdong province adja?cent to Hong Kong. Many have re?cently begun offering value-added services such as the distribution of news over alphanumeric pagers.
