China is reportedly planning to enhance its internet security in the wake of alleged US National Security Agency (NSA) spying on telecom equipment maker Huawei Technologies.
Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng said that the reports of Huawei’s servers being infiltrated ‘lay bare the United States’s hypocrisy and despotic rule.’
"For a while now, some Americans have jabbered on and on, condemning Chinese hacking attacks," Geng added.
"But the truth is that this is without any basis in fact, it’s simply a thief crying ‘Stop, thief!’"
Previous reports have revealed that the spying agency also targeted Chinese officials, including ex-president Hu Jintao during his supremacy, in addition to several ministries and financial institutions.
The US, which once considered Huawei as security risk and even banned it from US trade deals amid fears that it would create ‘back doors’ in its equipment that would disclose confidential corporate and government info to Chinese military or hackers, had reportedly been working its way into the networks of the telecom equipment maker.
The latest details were exposed by ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden, which have caused chaos in the US concerning privacy rights, as well annoyed several US allies whose leaders were targeted by the US spying agency.
