Insatiable storage management and backup software house Cheyenne Software Inc, based in Roslyn Heights, New York, has made its third acquisition in as many weeks: this time it’s the assets of Moniker Inc, of Scotts Valley, California. Moniker is a developer of CD-Recordable software for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95, including Spira, a product that allows users to save and retrieve files to their CDs in a similar way to conventional disk drives. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the company expects a one-time write-off of about two cents per share in its first quarter, ending September 30th. Cheyenne’s recent strategy – including the launch in June of its Backup and Infinite Disk products – is leading it towards the desktop and retail end of the marketplace. Cheyenne will market Spira directly to its OEM partners, and later plans to integrate it with its other desktop software. Cheyenne’s other recent acquisitions were voicemail messaging company Mediatrends, Inc, and storage management firm Intelligence Quotient International Limited. It also signed a software licensing and OEM agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co’s Colorado Memory Systems Division to license Colorado Backup software applications and provide desktop backup software to the division (CI No 2,966). Last April, Cheyenne itself was the subject of a takeover bid from McAfee Associates Inc (CI No 2,894).
