Cheyenne Software Inc made three major deals this month, most notably the acquisition of Concord, Massachussetts-based Mediatrends Inc, a developer of computer telephony software. Cheyenne hopes to use the acquisition to help it deliver unified mess aging systems for the desktop, workgroup, and enterprise. Cheyenne said the Mediatrends acquisition will enable it to be the first vendor to offer a voice mail messaging offering for Windows95 and Windows NT environments and the first to support the Microsoft-promoted standard TAPI. The system will enable users to manage facsimile messages, voice mail and electronic mail from a common inbox. Mediatrends has developed both client and server voice mail software for Windows NT and Windows95. Chey enne will launch the Windows95 products first, and then follow with the Windows NT versions. The company is also planning a product that integrates its current FAXserve product with the Mediatrends technology. Cheyenne will market the products throu gh its two-tier distributor-reseller channel and through its OEM partners. It plans to target resellers currently selling its FAXserve product and sign up additional resellers with telecommunications expertise. The acquisition came just four days after the company’s takeover of Intelligence Quotient International Ltd. This deal is designed to enhance Cheyenne’s core storage management technologies with open file and partial file management technology. Cheyenne has also announced a strategic so ftware licensing and OEM agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co. Under the terms of the agreement, the Roslyn, New York-based Software Cheyenne will license Hewlett-Packard’s Colorado Memory Systems Division’s Colorado Backup software applications, and w ill also be the exclusive provider of desktop back-up software for Colorado Memory.
