CHESAPEAKE & POTOMAC AWARDED $220M CONTRACT

By CBR Staff Writer

Bell Atlantic Corp’s Chesapeake & Potomac Co has been awarded the $220m 10-year Washington Interagency Telecommunications Service contract to link most of the US government agencies in the Washington area with a modern digital telephone system that will enable each to control its own phone and data costs: it was the sitting tenant, but the General Services Administration looks for a $40m saving over the 10-years of the pact, which includes links to the long-distance FTS-2000 system being built by AT&T Co and US Sprint Communications.
