A database of all the 550,000 people that suffered from radiation poisoning after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster is being put together at the Institute for Medical Radiology in Obninsk in the Kaluga region of the Russian republic, Isvestiya reports: the existence of the database has prompted the foundation of an independent research centre for medical problems caused by radiation; the new research centre is being supported by all members of the World Health Organisation.
