Recently-departed Cray Research designer Steve Chen has incorporated SuperComputer Systems Inc in out-of-the-way Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The infant company has taken over a printed circuit board factory clos-ed down by Unisys Corp this year. Eau Claire was so keen to get a new tenant that Chen will pay $39,200 for a one-year lease on the building, while the city will pay Unisys $84,000, with local taxpayers meet-ing the difference. SuperComputer Systems, registered in Nevada by Chen and retired Control Data exec-utive Paul Miller, is expected to employ some 40 people initially, so Eau Claire is paying about $1,000 a job. SuperComputer Systems is ex-pected to revive Chen’s MP project.
