Check Point Software Technologies Ltd yesterday announced new software to enable internet service providers (ISPs) to manage network security policies for multiple corporate customers from a single server. The company’s Provider-1 software lets service providers manage up to 50 of Check Point’s Firewall-1 and virtual private network (VPN) software from one server. It is targeted at ISPs and telcos who want to outsource their customers’ management of security operations. Already 25 ISPs have signed up to test a beta version of the product. The main benefit of the software is that it enables ISPs to reduce costs, Check Point said, since they no longer need to deploy an individual server for every business. Provider-1 will significantly expand profit opportunities for ISPs who can now manage hundreds of customers with thousands of firewalls, the company said in a statement. Highlights of Provider-1 include an advanced GUI (graphical user interface) to make it easier to ISPs to monitor status and alert information for multiple sites and distributed management and control, which lets a number of administrators manage multiple customers sites at the same time. The new software, due to ship by year’s end, can also split the management tasks enabling the ISP to manage the firewall while the user retains control of who has access to the network. It will be priced from around $3,000 per network managed, Check Point said.
