The company said that solution combines integrated unified threat management (UTM) security features with up to three years of subscription-based security services, software updates and a hardware warranty in a single package.
The UTM-1 solution offers protection against common attack such as spam or malware as well as infrastructure attacks such as e-mail servers. It includes application and network layer firewall virtual private network (VPN), gateway antivirus and anti-spyware, web filtering, messaging security for email and a centrally managed platform.
According to Check Point, the solution comes with security features, including a content-based anti-spam engine to detect spam, an internet protocol reputation facility to block spam at the connection level by checking the reputation of the sender and a block/allow lists for administrators to block email offenders.
It also includes an antivirus signature scan to scans message content and attachments against existing antivirus signatures, email intrusion prevention to protect the messaging infrastructure and a zero-hour outbreak protection to block attacks before a signature is available.
With tens of thousands of new phishing attacks discovered every month and zombie botnets sending an estimated 80% of unwanted mail, spam is no longer simply a nuisance. It is also a threat to users and a costly drain on network bandwidth, said Bob Egner, vice president of product management at Check Point.
The UTM-1 Total Security appliance, including software subscription and security updates is available at a starting price of $10,500.
In June 2007, UTM solutions provider Rival Cyberoam launched the CR25i appliance. The CR25i offers similar online security features and is targeted at the small office home office and remote office branch office markets.
